VENEZUELAN REGIME
POLICY POINTS DEFINED U.S. RECOGNITION LIKELY CARACAS, Oct. 24. The new regolutionary Government in Venezuela has announced an emergency programme designed to lift “a backward nation to a higher social and economic level,” says the Associated Press correspondent. The programme includes, first, encouraging immigration to stimulate agricultural production; secondly, the closest relations with the United States; thirdly, legalisation of labour unions, and, fourthly, an education budget larger than the military budget. Some foreign diplomats in Caracas forecast an early recognition of the junta. The United States is reported to be favourably inclined to this course. The junta plans to resign early in 1946 when a new constituent Aserhbly will announce the Presidential elections. Members of the junta will be barred as candidates. All organised resistance to the junta is believed to have ended. The latest casualty figures are- 150 killed and 350 wounded.
