VICHY CHIEF IN SYRIA LIFE TERM IN PRISON (11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 25. The death sentence imposed on General Dentz, formerly High Commissioner in Syria, has been reduced by General de Gaulle to life imprisonment. Dentz was sentenced in a Paris court on charges of treason while in command of French forces in Syria. Normally this would mean hard labour, but because of Dentz’s age (64) he is to be spared this.
