REMOVAL OF RESTRICTIONS
Letters to the Editor.
Sir,..lt is crystal clear that Great Britain and the United States of America must work together, but after .the recent British election the reactions in America are aptly expressed in the Journal American, an extract reading as follows: “By adding up Bretton Woods and other agreements which Congress has purblindly approved, a total of 18 billion dollars is dedicated to buttressing Communism in Russia and implanting Socialism in Britain —eighteen billion dollars which the free people and free enterprise system of America are to provide so that the Russians may continue in social and economic slavery and that the British people may strive to attain that condition." Ttie foregoing American opinion should be taken to heart by New Zealanders. especially as our freedom is surely being taken away from us. Take a few of the many restrictions that should now be removed: (1) No bread deliveries in .the towns. It is pure eyewash to say that motor vehicles are not available —other trades can and are getting them. (2) Petrol rationing: The drive and organisation that monthly delivered countless millions of gallons of petrol to all theatres of war must have had sufficient tankers, etc., to do the job. Now the Government wants us to believe that a shortage of tankers is the trouble. If the very, very small percentage of the tankers that delivered petrol to the Pacific theatres of war were used for our needs there would be no need to ration petrol. Apparently the real reason is that the money must be kept here to pay for the latest socialistic legislation. It is going to be a poor lookout for the motoring public unless they protest vigorously. “ANTI-HUMBUG.”
