TAX-FREE SALARIES
UNITED NATIONS’ STAFF PROPOSALS TO MEMBERS (10 a m.) LONDON, Oct. 24. The United Nations’ report which proposed the payment of about £SOOO as an annual salary to the SecretaryGeneral and £3500 for the assistant director, and from £9OO to £3OOO for the secretaries and counsellers, recommended that all salaries should be tax free in all countries and such “as would enable men of eminence and high attainment to accept and maintain the positions.” The report recommends that the appointments be initially for a term of five years.
