CRICKET SEASON
COMMENCING SATURDAY ARRANGEMENTS MADE The opening day for the 1015-46 cricket season is set down for Saturday at 1.30 p.m. and the president of the association, Mr. P. C. Dwyer, will officially declare the season open at 3.15 p.m. These arrangements were decided upon at a meeting of the committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association on Tuesday night. Present were Messrs. J. A. Crawford-Smith, chairman, J. Barbour, A. Campbell, H. Tapping, R. H. Cook. G. A. Rcvell, R. E. Sole. C. Fraser and T. Gedyc, hon. secretary. To date seven teams have been submitted to the management committee, but any additional players who would like a game are requested to bo at the H gh School grounds at 115 pm Mnriflt are endeavouring to form a second team and with a little help should do t»ams approved are: R.S.A., Nomads, Colts, Marist, G.H.S. A, G.H.S. B, and Civil Service. f . This year one wicket will be used at the Oval for senior cricket and two at the Hipsh School ground. Those players who are at the Oval will travel to the High School grounds for afternoon tea. Practice nights can be arranged by the clubs and any nights bar Monday night can be used. Saturday play will be from 1.30 to 6 p.m.. starting at 1.30 p.m. The draw is as follows: October 27.—A Grade: R.S.A. v. G.H.S. A, on Rectory wicket; Colts v. Marist, on Bath wicket; Nomads v.” Civil Service, on Oval; High School B. a bye. November 3.—A Grade: R.S.A. v. Colts, Oval; Civil Service v. Marist. Rectory wicket; G.H.S. B v. Nomads, Bath wicket; G.H.S. A, a bye. . , , It is probable that junior cricket will commence on Saturday. November 3, and, due to the coaching being given this year to the juniors by Mr. R. Sheffield the association feels that a good standard of cricket will he maintained by the younger players. The Marist Cricket Club’s team for Saturday will be picked from the following:—A. Campbell, A. Coker, R. Conole, U. Gardner, J. Gillespie, S. Lee, H. Mahon. A. Owen, J. Reed, C. Scholium, B. Scholium. R. Scholium, M. Sharp. R. E. Sole, and P. Tilley. .
