A recently elected member to the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce, Mr. C. J. Cox, Muriwai, was welcomed to last evening’s meeting by the president, Mr. H. K. Kendon. Mr. Cox expressed his determination to give his wholehearted support to the deliberations of the chamber. Two new members were proposed and elected, Messrs. James Eivers and Thomas Holt. Flight-Lieut. K. A. Greager, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Greager, Wanganui, has been appointed chief engineer_ of the Southern Rhodesian Air. Service. The service, which flies 18 aircraft in Central and East Africa from Johannesburg to Nairobi, links up with the central trunk route from England to South Africa. Mr. Malcolm Leadbetter, rector of the Waimate High School, has been appointed rector of the Southland Boys’ High School. He will succeed Dr. G. H. Uttley, whose retirement takes effect from January 1. Mr, Leadbetter, who is 42 years of age, has had an outstanding scholastic record and is a former New Zealand sprint champion. He has been rector of Waimate High School for 10 years.—P.A.
