IMPORT LICENSES
VALID TO JUNE, 1946 “Similarly to the action taken in connection with 1944 import licenses, it has been decided to make licenses granted for the 1945 period valid for imports up to June 30, 1946. in respect of firm orders placed under such licenses and accepted overseas prior to November, 1945," stated a communication from the Minister of Customs, the Hon. W. Nash, referred to the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce at its meeting last night. Licenses granted for 1945 in substitution for 1944 licenses and 1944 licenses extended until December 31, 1945, were, however, valid until that date only. The letter was originally addressed to the Associated Chambers of Commerce in response to information solicited by the body as requested by other chambers, which desired knowledge of the establishment of credits against import licenses. There should be no difficulty in arranging for credits in respect of licenses issued for 1946. the letter stated. These were available for the entry of goods which may be shipped before the end of 1945, and which may come to hand before the end of the year.
