Roebuck Road Blaze

The smartness with which the Gisborne Fire Brigade turned out to a fire in Roebuck road yesterday undoubtedly saved serious damage to the residence of Mr. J. McMullan. The outbreak occurred at the rear of the house and the brigade was summoned at 11.38 a.m. The cause was believed to have been a spark from a chip heater in the wash-house igniting a pile of shavings and sawdust. "When the engine arrived on the scene the fire had a good hold on the outbuildings of the residence, which were connected to the house. One lead of hose was run out and the blaze was soon under control before _ serious damage was caused to the main building.
