WAIKOHU TOURNEY LEADING AMATEUR BOYS Making his first .appearance in nil open tournament, the High School champion, T. Turnbull, is billed to meet D. Ray in one of the major bouts of an amateur boxing programme to be staged by the Wnikohu Boxing Association to-morrow evening, with the assistance of officials of the Gisborne Boxing Association. Turnbull's opponent is a newcomer to the district, and has had two bouts in Gisborne against Murphy, former Marist School champion. He won both these matches, narrowly enough, and his meeting with Turnbull should give a line on the respective merits of his two leading opponents. The To Karaka programme is largely made up of Waikohu-Gisborno bouts, with many of the district’s leading amateurs engaged. The hoys run the gamut of boxing weights, up to good solid middles, and one of the most promising of the bouts is that in which S. Clayden, Te Karaka, will meet T. Mclntyre, the solidpunching and fairly skilful Gisborne featherweight. Opponents have been found for C. Kosnmon, K. Cox, A. McKay and 11. Underwood, among others of the well-known district amateurs, and 16 matches have been arranged. An exhibition spar will lie given by T. Baty, the resident professional, who is to have his third fight, in the open ranks at Hastings shortly. Baty will spar with F. Hollis and "Skip” Kay in turn, and his appearance against these two strong draw-cards should give the tournament added polish.
