F. FENWICK’S SUCCESS WHAKATANE TOURNAMENT The Poverty Bay Golf Club’s membership was well represented at the open tournament of the Whakatane Golf Club, played during the week-end, and F. Fenwick brought home the Bay of Plenty championship. He also took the aggregate medal with 77. The tournament was played in adverse weather conditions, but the course at Whakatane was in excellent order, and the entry included players from many parts of the Auckland Province, 120 taking part in the qualifying rounds. The previous holder of the title, Bailey, was unexpectedly beaten in the semi-final by a Te Puke entrant, Parkes. Bailey had previously beaten E. S. Toogood, who at the Rotorua tournament a week or two ago played the final with Brinsden, Auckland. When Parkes met Fenwick he put up a good fight, and eventually went down 3 and 1 The Gisborne contingent comprised 24 players, not all of them Fenwicks. They were entertained with the well-known Whakatane cordialitv, and received a promise that Whakatane will be well represented in the Poverty Bay tournament next year.
