( p a ) AUCKLAND, Oct. 22. The Auckland Trotting Club’s spring meeting was opened at Epsom on Saturday in fine but windy weather. The attendance totalled 17,G00. The track was in good order, the totalisatov handled £129,432. as against £37,407 on the corresponding day last year, in increase of £42.025. ... South Island horses won seven races, Highland Scott revealing outstanding form to win the Victory and Electric Handicaps. The only local winner, Kewpie s Crown, paid nearly three score. At the instigation of the stipendiary steward an inquiry was hold into tho running .ot Echoift, who finished third. The allegation was that Echoist had paced during the race. After considering the evidence the stewards decided to give L. Beckett, driver ot Echoist, the benefit of the doubt and the judges placing* were unaltered.
