PRESS CRITICISM
SURPRISE EXPRESSED “BRUTAL STATEMENT” PARIS, Sept. 10. The Left Wing radical Franctireur, in a leader on General de Gaulle’s statement on British and French relations, expresses surprise that “such a categorical, not to say, brutal statement should be made on the eve of the Foreign Ministers’ conference in London.”
It criticises General de Gaulle’s proposal as leading to the separation of Europe into two hostile blocks which would become rivals, then antagonists —not without danger to peace.
The Socialist newspaper, Cite Soir, says: “The question is not so much to divide Germany as to re-educate her and integrate her into a larger whole of a European federation."
