COMBINED BREEDERS’ FAIR

Combined beef bull breeders of the Gisborne district held a highly successful sale yesterday at Matavvhcro. when Hcrcfords were ollercd to a good attendance ol buyers, with a good sprinkling of outside representation. The top price paid was MO'Jgns. lor a fine animal from Messrs. Harris Bios., stud, which went to an Auckland buyer; and the same stud secured 260gns. for another entry, sold to Te Hau station after spirited bidding. Most of the competition developed during the early part of the day, and lots reserved lor the later hours tended to drag a little. However, the sale as a whole was a thoroughly satisfactory one, reflecting Hie strong demand now forthcoming for Hereford bulls from Gisborne district studs. Messrs. Harris Bros, sold 18 bulls at an average of 109gns.. exceeding by a good margin the aggregate sales of other studs. Mr. E. E. Williams, with four bulls sold, registered an average of 123igns., and Mrs. G. L. Mine, whb topped" the sale last year on the corresponding day, secured an average of 81 ; Vgns. for six bulls sold.. A competition conducted by the Combined Beef Bull Breeders’ Association produced the following awards: —Harris Bros.’ Atea 274th., 1; Harris Bros.' Alea 270th. 2: C. Tietjen’s Rata Curly 10th 3: E.
