TURANGANUI GOLFERS
CHAMPIONSHIPS NEAR END Playing conditions were almost perfect at the Tuoi links during the recent week-end when summer weather prevailed and a number of players reduced their handicaps. The games were keenly contested and more than the usual number of championship matches were conducted. A. Ogilvie succeeded in winning the bogey competition on the count back, after tying with C. Hume, It. Farrell and J. Kaua, who were each one up on the colonel. Mrs. Stratton, 2 up, led the field in the ladies’ section.
In the Stableford competition. C. Hume, 38 points, and Mrs. Ellis 38 points, were the best scorers.
The finals of the championship series will bo played during the coming week-end, the position in the various categories being:— Senior Men.—C. Pcre, the present champion, will meet G. Butler ,a runner-up on previous occasions, who 13 expected to extend the ho!de\' of the cup. They will play 30 holes, commencing at 0.30 a.m. on Saturday. All other matches will lie over 18 holes. Junior Men.—T. Ellis plays the winner of J. Coutts and V. Ivcss. Senior Flight.—C. Hume plays the winner of R. Dolman and P. Tilley. Junior Plight.—J. Gillespie plays T. O’Brien. Senior Ladies.—Mrs. Kaua, the present Champion, will meet Mrs. Stratton. Junior Ladies.—Mrs. Reddell and Mrs. Tart, also Mrs, Dixon and Mrs. Crack, will play during the week so that the finals may be completed at Gie week-end. Senior Flight.—Mrs. Devos is the winner, having defeated Mrs. Gar.lcy. Junior Flight.—Mr.s. Hume plays Mrs. Ellis.
