WOMEN’S CHALLENGE CUP AMERICAN BASKETBALL The challengers, Eagles, by their superior combination and attacking powers, successfully annexed the Women’s Challenge Cup from Power Board when they met on Monday night following the competition games conducted by the - Gisborne American Basketball League.
Eagles played a fast game, repeatedly breaking down Power Board with their swift passing movements and deadly shooting. The losers’ failing point was in hesitating before attempting to net the ball when they were in excellent scoring positions. The final score was 32-0 in Eagles’ favour. Next week Eagles will defend the cup against a challenge from Nurses.
Of the competition games played Masonic and Power Board gave a good display and the Seagulls v. Police contest proved close and exciting. In the last-mentioned game Seagulls led 17-6 at half-time, but Police gradually picked up to win at 45-30. Results: Competition Games.—Nurses 20 v. Bull and Edwards 2; Air Force 2 v.
