KILLED ON SERVICE GISBORNE AIRMAN Tiie second member of the Gisborne squadron of the Air Training Corps to pay the supreme sacrifice for his country was Flight Sergeant Arthur William Doreen, Manutuke, who was classified as killed in a recent list of R.N 7. A.F. casualties in the Pacific theatre. One of the original band of young men who joined the corps at the Gisborne squadron’s inception, Flight Sergeant Doreen was a pupil at the Gisborne High School when he first volunteered and was accepted as a cadet on February 3, 1942. A year later lie enlisted for service with ihe R.N Z A.F. and was mobilised to Levin air station on January 4, 1943, His advanced training was done in Canada and it was there that he qualified for his wireless operator-air gunner badge Returning to New Zealand he joined a bombing crew and was on his second tour of operations when his death was reported. Twenty-one years of age, he was the son Of Mrs. L Nepia, Gisborne.
