HOSPITAL BOARD ECONOMY
Sir,—l would like to call attention to a matter of much public intereat,. The Cook Hospital was established for the purpose ot giving necessary service to the sick p.oople of the district. Past boards are to be 'congratulated on the excellent services they have provided for the- loss fortunate members of the community. As a result of their work tlio hospital is something to be proud of.' But now, lam sorry to say, 1 seem to see a new influence at work. Some mc»"bers of the board seem more concerned .With protecting the pockets of the ratepayers ~tn:m with the care of the sick. This'is not what they were elected for. Tt is the tyrong'wri-y to look at things and I think it. is time to make a protest. Board members should not Sacrifice the sick on the altar of economy as
some of them are trying to do. At one recent board meeting a whole series 6f resolutions were moved in an effort to reduce tho services ,of. the-hospital to'.the sick. This now trend gives the public cause tor serious alarm and it is time pressure was put °n the offending members to sticks'to ithe old-policy to give more attention to the care of the sick, and less to trying to become popular by appeasing the wealthy ratepayers. I hope the electors of Gisborne will have long memories arid will take' the 'first' bp'jporfuriity to show their opinion of those 'members who seem not to have- the welfare of the sick at heart.—“ALARMED.”
