Films On Christmas Day. Permission for Gisborne Theatres, Ltd. to scree* - *••••films at the Regent end Majestic theatres next Christmas Dav was granted by the Gisborne Borough Council at its meeting last night. The application, which it was pointed out had been apnroved for several vears. was for one session only; and that to be in the evening.

Ex-prisoners Arrive In Gisborne Soldiers and airmen in the party of Gisborne and district ex-prisoners of war arriving at Gisborne last- night after their, return to the Dominion yesterday were welcomed in the usual manner by the Mayor, Mr. N. H. Bull, in company with the town clerk, 1 Mr. W. M. Jenkins. The partv trayelled by road transport to Gisborne- in three vehicles .the first of which arrived at 10.50 p.m. and the last in the early hours of the morning. The men were quickly dispatched to their homes by army personnel and voluntary helpers. One man for the Coast remained in Gisborne to-day for medical boarding, after which he will be conveyed to his home. Medical bearding ’of the arfny personnel will be carried out as soon as possible.

Women’s Bowling Green. Whilst it was appreciated and the women were willing to assist in: the laying down of a green, the reserves and waterworks committee of the Gisborne Borough Council reported at last evening’s meeting of., the council that it ivas unable to recommend tile council to assist the Women's Bowling Club further than making land available for the purpose of laying down a green. D.D.T. Supplies Available

Recent reference to the lack of supplies of the new insecticide, D.D.T.. for public usage was the subject of a discussion at the meeting of the Gisborne Borough CounciL last night. Mr. H. F. Wise said that a week or so ago he had written to a' Wellington firm asking for a gallon of the liquid .mixture of D.D.T. for exterminating house flies and other insects. He had received the order in good time and without anv question. It appeared, he said, that there were supplies available to the public. The price per gallon was £2 10s and the mixture -ontained a certain percentage of D.D.T. powder dissolved in kerosene. Other members stated that D.D.T. 'had been advertised and at least one chemist in Gisborne claimed to have sunplies. The council decided to inquire from the Health Department as to whether there were supplies of the powder available for public purchase.
