RATIONING NOTICE. AFFECTING MANUFACTURERS, RESTAURANTS,. MILK BARS AND SIMILAR ESTABLISHMENTS.

INTERESTED persons are advised chat certain restrictions operate in regard to allowances of tea sugar, butter and meat for new businesses and for existing businesses where transfer from one person to another is contemplated. It should be notea that existing allowances of rationed goods do not necessarily continue unaltered with change of ownership, and that new businesses do not automatically qualify for allowances similar to those already in force for other establishments. In general terms, the present position is as follows: — „„„ NEW BUSINESSES. (a) Allowances of rationed foodstuffs will not be granted to new businesses for the manufacture oi cakes confectionery, ice cream, biscuits'meat pies, hamburgers, or any other manufactured commodity. (b> Applications for tea. sugar and butter allowances for serving meals in a new restaurant will be considered only if it can be shown that a definite public need exists m the locality to be served. (c) Allowances will not be granted tb new milk bars for the purpose of manufacturing syrups for milkshakes. TRANSFERS. Existing allocation of rationed foods will not necessarily remain unaltered it a business is sold or is moved to different premises. No allocation is deemed to go with any business or to belong to any particular person. Many al -.-. personal allocations which are definitely not transferable and others are subject to various conditions and restrictions. WARNING. For his own protection. every person contemplating opening up a new business or acquiring an existing one using rationed foodstuffs should first approach his local Rationing Officer, who will explain the position regarding rationed goods in his case, vt aining is given that, after this date, prior commitments made or expenses incurred by any person (whether acting on his own account or upon unofficial advice) will not be considered as extenuating circumstances when applications for allowances are lodged.
