BUBONIC PLAGUE
MALTA AND CORSICA
RAT INCREASE BLAMED (9 a.m.) MALTA. June- 29
Bubonic plague has broken out in Malta. Four confirmed cases have thus far been reported and the military and civil authorities are cooperating to take every precaution to combat the danger of an epidemic. The Government is appealing for supplies of powerful new insecticides like D.D.T. or its British equivalent. There are masses of debris everywhere as a result of the “Battle of Malta” in which the rat population is rapidly increasing despite attempts at extermination.
An outbreak of plague last week was also reported in Corsica, to which it was carried from North Africa by rats.
