SIX ISLANDS SEIZED

AMERICANS IN MARIANAS EMERGENCY - AIRFIELDS (9 a.m.) NEW YORK, June 28. American negro troops seized six new small islands in the Mariana Group in a reconnoitring operation to locate more areas where SuperFortresses could make crash-landings while limping back from raids on Japan, reports the United Press correspondent on Guam, The islands seized were Anatha’n, Sairgan, Alamgan, Agrihan, Ascuncion and Maug. The islands were not garrisoned. A native guide fired the only shot of the operation when a Japanese civilian refused to surrender. The troops captured 24 Japanese civilians and 38 natives, most of whom were employed by the Japanese Copra Company
