RED ARMY PINCERS NEARING BRESLAU (11 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 9. While Moscow is silent about the progress of Marshal Zhukov’s armies on the central Oder River front facing - Berlin, ■ German reports say that the Russians are engaged in heavy fighting to strengthen the bridgeheads they have gained on the western banks of the river.

The right flank of Marshal Zhukov’s armies swinging towards Stettin has captured 40 more places and is reported to be under 20 miles from the Baltic port. In East Prussia the Russians have surrounded the port of Elbing, on the Vistula River estuary. In Silesia, Marshal Koniev’s forces are reported to be executing a pincer movement to capture Breslau.
