45,000-TON CARRIERS
U.S. LAUNCHINGS SOON (10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Feb. 8. Midway and Coral Sea, the first two new super-carriers, will be launched in the spring. The vessels are of 45,000 tons and are stronger, faster, more heavily armed and harder to sink because of more thorough compartments that in the existing carriers. They will carry heavier planes, probably twin-engined craft and possibly jet-propelled fighters.
