EMPLOYEES OF STATE SUPPORT IN~ GISBORNE COMBINED MEETING 11 ELD At a general meeting of State employees, held in Gisborne last evening, it. was decided to recommend to the national organisations of the respective groups that all should federate with a view to presenting a united front on matters of common interest. The meeting was convened by th" Public Service Association in Gisborne. and was largely attended. The associations concerned were the Educational Institute, Post and Telegraph Employees' Association and Officers' Guild, the A.S.R.S., the Railway Officers' Institute. the Engine-drivers, Firemen and Cleaners' Association, the Police Association, and the Public Service Association. The upshot of a lengthy discussion was that, with one dissentient vote, the meeting carried the following motion: "That this general meeting of all sections of State services in the Poverty Bay district calls upon Iho national executives of all service ' organisations to collaborate in the ! early formation of a federation of i State employees, with a view to presenting a united front on all matters | of common interest, and further, that t the. national executives are urged to ; co-operate and co-ordinate their J efforts to obtain from the Government a prompt and favourable settlement Inf the various wages and salaries I claims at present being prosecuted on i behalf of the workers in the various j Slate services."
