Mr. J. R. Herd, a judge of the High Court of Western Samoa, who is at present on leave in New Zealand, has been appointed a temporary stipendiary magistrate to exercise criminal and civil jurisdiction during the absence of Mr. W. F. Stilwell from the Magisterial Bench in Wellington. Advice has been received that Flight-Lieutenant P. D. McNeil, eldest son of Mrs. _E. A. McNeil. Bayswater. Auckland, has been promoted to the rank of squadron-leader. SquadronLeader McNeil is now chief technical officer of a recently formed Lancaster squadron in England.
