GIRLS DIRECTED
MUNITIONS WORKERS APPEALS DISALLOWED A number of appeals concerning girls directed to employment in the Ford Motor Company of New Zealand, Limited’s, munitions works at Lower Hutt were dealt, with in Gisborne on Monday by the No. 2 Industrial Appeal 'Committee (Messrs. F. D. Cornwell, chairman, G. E. Cartwright, A. Black and H. G. Walker, secretary). The man-power officer at Gisborne, Mr. V .G. Walker, represented the National Service Department. The following appeals were disallowed, and the workers concerned have been advised to be ready to travel to the works on Februai'y 20: J. M. Maxwell, waitress (appealed for by Mrs. E. Maxwell); B. J. Loach, domestic (Mrs. W. J. Loach); M. T. Cook, clerical worker (Ball and Crawshaw); J. E. Whitty, typist; C. J. McGregor, typist and clerk (N.Z. Insurance Company); J. F. Izod, confidential secretary (Common, Shelton and Company, Limited). An appeal by Mrs. S. Holdsworth. Puha, for M. Dunshea, domestic, was allowed. With the provision that the worker was not to- be called before March (5, an appeal bv Guthrie and Maddock for M. M. Waldock, shop assistant, was disallowed. The appeal of Mrs. M. Ingram for J. Ingram was allowed, while an appeal lodged in the same case by Rosie and Company was adjourned ' for three months.
At Wairoa the following cases were dealt with by the committee last wee];: O. M. Butler, cook (appealed for by Bates, Wairoa, Limited), disallowed: 1. G. Butlc”, waitress (J. N. Lindsav), •adjourned sine die; E. G. Kent, typist (Wairoa Borough Council). allowed.
