“JOB FOR EVERYONE”
AUSTRALIAN POLICY DEMOBILISATION PLANS (9 a.m.) CANBERRA, Feb. 8. The Commonwealth Government intends to adopt a system of demobilisation of servicemen depending mainly on age, length of service, and marital status. This was announced here by the Minister for Post-war Reconstruction, Mr. J. J. Dedman. Demobilisation would take about 18 months after the war ended, lie said. At the end of the war it was expected there would be 500.000 men and about 40,000 women still serving with tine forces. The Government was less interested in the prosecution of employers for not reinstating their former employees than in encouraging them cheerfully to accept this national obligation. Mr. Dedman emphasised that Australia's post-war aim must be a job for everyone. As a returned soldier, he had a vivid recollection of the failure of past Governments to make good such pledges. As Minister of Post-war Reconstruction, lie would work to see that the productive resources of the nation were used to provide good homes, employment, and good living conditions for_ the returned men and their families, and for Ihe whole community.
