WAR-TIME CONTROLS

RELAXATION PROMISED AUSTRALIAN INDUSTRY (9 a.m.) CANBERRA, Feb. 8. Both the Minister and the manufacturers are pleased with the results of the secondary industries conference now concluded. A joint statement issued by the Minister of Post-war Reconstruction, Mr. Dedman, and the president of the Associated Chambers of Manufacturers, Mr. W. Queaie, described the conference as one of the most important the .representaives of industry had had with tiro Government. Less controversy than was expected occurred at -the conference and the Government vic\v on most matters was regarded ns reasonable by the manufacturers. The most likely issue upon which dissension appeared possible was price control, and it is understood that (lie Government indicated that adjustments could be made. The Government indicated that there would be a progressive and orderly relaxation of wartime controls generally.

The Treasurer, Mr. Chiffey. told the conlcrencc that some control of overseas expenditure would continue after the war.
