RED CROSS POST

N.Z.R.S.A. PROTEST GISBORNE’S " SUPPORT COL. MUIR - COMMENDED “The greatest credit is due to Colonel A. S. Muir for speaking out about the appointment of a Red Cross Commissioner for the Middle East. He is in a position to know how much work is required in the distribution of comforts to the New Zealand troops in that theatre, and the facilities already available for that work. “Apart from the question as to whether a special commissioner for Red Cross work is necessary, there is the matter of the appointee's status in regard to military -service. It is quite clear that the appointment, if one had to be made, should have been given to an ex-service man,” said Mr. G. Bradley Smith, deputy chairman of the Gisborne Returned Services Association executive, at a meeting held last evening. The meeting discussed the matter briefly, and carried the following' motion unanimously: “That the Gisborne executive of the New Zealand Returned Services Association sup-! ports strongly the protest of the Dominion executive, relative to the appointment of a Red Cross Commissioner with the Middle East forces.”
