POLYGAMISTS GAOLED

PROBLEM OL FAMILIES (9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 7. Seventy-six wives and 332 children of 24 convicted polygamists plan to form a mutual aid society in which some can work while others mind the children, but the plan may not work because the wives are continually quarrelling. Twelve polygamous husbands, who were convicted in Salt Lake City. Utah, have been sentenced to gaol terms of 12 months each. Others may be given sentences up to six years. Meanwhile, the problem of feeding and clothing their dependents must be solved. About one-third of the wives already have war jobs, but the employers in the neighbourhood are opposed to polygamy and may be reluctant to employ others. It is believed that many of the women and children may have to go to the Fundamentalist (polygamist sect) 1200acre farm in Arizona where a large quantity of food has been stored.
