Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., and Mrs. Coleman, have returned from the south. Mr. Coleman expects to toe in Gisborne for the next three or fqur weeks.

Squadron Leader R. W. Baird, Wellington, has been made an officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, according to advice received by the Air Department from London. He went overseas in July, 1941, to take up an administrative appointment in the Royal Air Force. After the Japanese occupation of Malaya, where he was serving. Squadron Leader Baird escaped to Java and from there went to Ceylon. He was attached to air headquarters in New Delhi, and at present is with the headquarters of the air command, South-east Asia. Squadron Leader Baird is a Master of Laws and a barrister and solicitor, as well as being a registered accountant and an associated member of the Australian Institute of Secretaries. He was educated in Wellington and is 27 years of age. Before enlisting he was emciloved in Wellington with a firm of barristers and solicitors.—P.A.
