HEROIC ASSAULT

BRITISH CAPTURE BURE NAZIS LIKE MADMEN (11.30 a.m.) LONDON. Jan. 7 “British troops under Field Marshal Montgomery’s new command captured Bure in an action which, is described as one of the most heroic of the war." says the British United Press correspondent at Supreme Allied Headquarters. “They fought: in a wilderness of snow and ice resembling the Russian front at its worst against the crack 2nd Panzer Grenadiers, who fought like madmen until forced back, yard by yard, by superior British fighting power and valour. "The British first attacked before dawn and were thrown back. They went in again and captured a few houses, then attacked a third time and reached the other end of the village. There the Panzer troops cut them off. but their comrades smashed through snow and ice against self-propelled guns, tanks and Spandaus, and started the battle all over again. “So it went on all night, until the British prevailed.”
