FATHER OF CHILD
JURY FAILS TO AGREE LOS ANGELES, Jan. 4. The jury failed to agree in the ease in which the actress Joan Barry sought to have Charlie Chaplin declared the father of her child. After six ballots the jury was divided 7-5, whereupon the judge declared a mistrial. A correspondent of tbo Associated Press says that an informal poll showed that six women jurors and one man favoured declaring Chaplin not the father of Miss Barry’s child. Miss Barry's attorney said the action would be reinstituted immediately.
