PRISONERS OF WAR
EXCHANGE PLANS GERMAN RELUCTANCE SWISS PRESSURE (11 a.m.) RUGBY. Jan 5. The British Government may make fresh proposals to Germany for the exchange of long-term prisoners of war. Mr. Anthony Eden, in a letter to Sir Leonard Lyle. M.P.. states that in spite of frequent pressure Irom the Swiss Government, no reply has been received to a proposal which Britain put forward last April regarding the exchanging of long-term prisoners. The letter continued: "We are therefore considering whether there is an alternative proposal which we can put forward, and which might have a better chance of acceptance by the Germans. If one is found, you may be sure it will be forwarded at once through the protecting Power. It should be made clear to relatives that the fault is with die Germans, and that without their co-operation no progress can be made. “With regard to prisoners in the Far East, the Japanese Government up to the present has refused to repatriate any sick or wounded.
