NEW WOOL BOARD
FEARS IN SOUTHLAND Fear of North Island domination ‘ was expressed at a meeting of wool- ‘ growers held in Invercargill for the purpose of nominating a candidate for election as one of the six W'oolgrowers’ representatives on the New it Zealand Wool Board. The chairman, 0 Mr. G. A. Hamilton, said it was ricsird able that each island should have d even representation on the board. He 11 thought Southland should nominate a e candidate because Southland, so it had c been claimed, grew the best Romney y wool in the world. p Mr. W. J. A. McGregor considered c orovision should have been made for each island to have three representae lives on the board. He thought !- there was a danger of North Island 3. domination. o Mr. Hamilton said representatives h would be elected by the electoral colt- lege which would see that, the repe resentation was fair. “There are a lot of dilferent types • of growers in this country, and the success of the board will depend on , the ability of the men appointed,” "j said Mr.' E. A. Cameron. _ "Conditions in Auckland are entirely difli ferent from conditions in Southland , and the board will have to act in the interests of the whole of New Zea--1 ’and. We have to endeavor to get as e far as we can equal representation for both islands.” 7’he meeting decided to nominate v Mr. Cameron as a candidate for election to the board as one of the wool,s growers’ representatives. He is a ' member of the electoral college of v (he Meat Board and also of the Na- „ tional Council of Primary Production. c ] He lias also served on the Dominion e executive of the Farmers’ Union and , is a past-president of the Southland p executive of the Farmers’ Union.
