WELLINGTON MAKE 302 CANTERBURY MATCH (P.A.j CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 5. Conditions were unpleasant yesterday for thc- representative . cricket match between Canterbury and Wellington at Lancaster Park. An overcast sky, accompanied by drizzle, handicapped both bowlers and fieldsmen: Wellington won the toss and batted practically all day to score 302. At stumps Canterbury had scored 26 runs without, loss. Wellington put up a splendid performance nfler a bat', start when five wickets fell for SI runs. Duffv, who opened, played a big part for Wellington and his knock was a solid one. Despite two chances, he and Chapman added 101 for the sixth , wicket. Die latte- was very lucky at the start, but he settled down to give Duffy grand support. Ai the luncheon adjournment Wellington had. lost five wickets for 105 runs and at tea 215 for nine. Hoar and Allen proved the stumbling block for Canterbury. The pair added 87 for the last wicket. Both batsmen played a correct game and scored with splendid strokes. .. , MePau’s performance must be as his best in representative cricket. Both Bi'ijUrkeld aim Burtt bowled well, the former causing the batsmen many uneasy moments.
