RE-TREADING TYRES

NEW PLAN ADOPTED PROCEDURE SIMPLIFIED The motor trade in New Plymouth and throughout Taranaki, has received advice from the office of the factory controller of a simplified procedure for applications for the re-treading of motor tyres, which will save time ana labour. The new practice is to operate as from January 1. Instead of the apolieations having to go through local controllers the process becomes an automatic one and is operated through the re-treader or authorised dealer. The latter gets the applicant to fill in the required particulars on the top portion of the certificate, to which the applicant’s signature is appended: After inspecting the oil fuel license of the applicant the re-treader then processes the tyre with A or B grade material, according to whichever the applicant is entitled. A grade material may be supplied , for all trucks and for cars with a ■continuous monthly license of 20 gallons or over. All other vehicles with a continuous monthly petrol license are to be supplied with B grade material, except in special cases where operating conditions, such as extremely rough roads, render B grade unsuitable. In such special cases arrangements have been made for the district oil fuel controller who issued the petrol license to endorse the retreading certificate upon presentation, that A grade is approved. Each tyre processed must be supported by a separate certificate, which will take the place of the present permit. With regard to Red Cross transport drivers, they may be given re-treads upon production of a certificate from the area commpnding officer to the pfl'ect that the car has been used for Red Cross transport purposes with oil fuel supplied by the Army Department. If the certificate indicates that an average of more than 20 gallons of petrol a month is made available for this purpose A grade material may | be used. ■
