KIWI BATTLE-DRESS
POPULAR OVERSEAS “MONTY’S” EXAMPLE (Special Correspondent.) (9 am- ) LONDON, Jan. 3. Men’ of the Second N.Z.E.F. are envied by men of other armies. it has nothing to do with conditions or pay or welfare—at least in this instance. It is simply that everyone admires the battle-dress they wear. It is so universally liked that both Field-Marshal Montgomery and Lieu-tenant-General Leese wear it. Field - Marshal Montgomery, of course, acquired his before he left the Eighth Army command. One day Lieutenant-General Leese, who is on leave in London, walked into a room at the New Zealand military headquarters and said, with a smile: "General Freyberg says that I may have one of your battle-dresses. And he got one for which he paid. Recently a New Zealander arrived from Cairo and on his visiting the War Office several high-ranking olhcers remarked on his bnttle-diess, asked where he got it, and if they could get one, too. “As far as I can see,” the New Zealander remarked, “all English officers would like to get one if they could.”
