HOLIDAY RACE PERIOD £ 1,9 5 O,OO{T7n'VESTED The sum of £1,950,008 !0s was invested on the lotali.saior at racing and trotting meetings held throughout, the Dominion during the holiday period which concluded on Tuesday. This figure shows an increase of £109,058 10s over the total invested during the corresponding period last year. There were two extra fixtures —one racing and one trotting—this year and these tended to swell the increased investments. Tlie largest increase at any centre was recorded in Auckland, where tlie investments at the F.llerslie races wore £53.087 10s in excess of last year's amount. A substantial increase of £45,-199 was also registered at the Auckland trotting meeting. The total investments at the two Auckland meetings were £943,975 1 Os. compared with £ 845,389 last year. Tlie previous best was £93.157. handled in 1943. when .the Taranaki Jockey Club’s Cup meeting was held at Stratford. A Taranaki record for one day was set on the first day of tlie Stratford meeting on Monday, when £50.870 10s was handled, eclipsing the previous record of £50,560 on the second day oi tile Taranaki Jockey Club's 1943 Cup meeting. An added attraction on that occasion was tile presence of tlie champion Kindergarten in the Taranaki Stakes.
