“BLIGHTY” LEAVE
FIRST SINCE D-DAY TROOPS REACH LONDON UPROARIOUS WELCOME (9 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 2. The first “D-day leave” men from the Western Front arrived in London on Monday night. There were tumultuous scenes as the expresses pulled into i a London terminus, reminiscent of the arrival of leave trains in the last war. A crowd of more than 2000 stretched across four platforms, singing the last-war songs “Tipperary” and “Pack Up Your Troubles” while waiting for the first “Blighty” express. The crowds uproariously welcomed the bronzed, vigorous and fighting-fit troops, only 48 hours from the front. The members of this first batch are granted leave from January i to January 9.
