BOY’S SUDDEN DEATH
SWIMMING IN CREEK A verdict that death was due to heart failure was returned by Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M.. in Gisborne yesterday at tire inquest into the death of a 14-year-old boy, Brian Norman Anthony Story, who died on New Year's Day alter being pulled out of a creek at Patutahi by his brother and a companion. Evidence was given by Dr. R. !\I. Gunn, who conducted the postmortem examination. He stated*that the deceased had an enlarged heart, and in his opinion death was due to heart failure. Bernard Ambrose Story, father of tire deceased, gave evidence of identification and also stated that his son had often been sent home .from school because of fainting.
Bernard .Tame? Story and Ronald Turbitt, who were swimming with the deceased, .gave evidence that he had been sitting at the edge of the creek in water which reached to his shoulders when he suddenly slid into deeper water and splashed about for a few minutes, before Iris companions could rescue him. Artificial respiration. was applied without, success.
