NORTHERN IRELAND
AGRICULTURAL OUTPUT Northern Ireland has a splendid record in its wartime agricultural production, states the London Daily Telegraph. Official statistics show that there has been a 79 per coni increase in the tillage area since 1939, against a 09 per cent increase in England and Wales, and 05.9 for the United Kingdom.
hi this period crop acreage in Northern Ireland increased from 470.828 in 1939 io 850.730 last year. This year oats, potatoes and flax between them account for 91 per cent of ilu' ploughed area in Northern Ireland. By far the biggest crop is oats, representing more than 52 per cent ol the whole area. Cattle, numbering 885,799. reached the highest figures ever recorded.
