‘DISTORTION OF TRUTH’ SYDNEY ALLEGATION COMMUNISTS INSPIRED (9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 7. “For more than a year, newspapers throughout Australia and particularly in New South Wales have been subjected to a campaign of abuse and distortion of the truth,’’ declared Sir Tnhn- Butters, chairman of directors f the Sydney Sun, to-clay. “There van be only one reason for this campaign—to destroy public coniidence in a free press and pave the way for a controlled press.” It was significant, added Sir John, that' the attacks had been led by Communist publications and the. organs of those, trade unions whose officials were professed Communists. These people were" well-organised, active and prepared to take advantage of any disturbance or industrial trouble.
