LABOUR DISQUIET

‘'BRITISH BAYONETS” QUESTIONS IN COMMONS LIBERATED*”COUNTRIES (9 a an.) ' LONDON, Dec. 6. The Birmingham Council of Labour, representing the three wings of the Labour movement, expressed disquiet concerning the situation in Greece. “The probability that British troops are being put against those elements in Greece who were responsible for the heroic resistance struggle against Fascism and Nazism is profoundly disquieting. It is a betrayal of democracy that British bayonets should be used to bolster up an obviously unpopular Government, while those who carried on the resistance movement are being disarmed,” stated a spokesman. “This feeling of disquiet is deepened by the recollection of the attitude of Mr. Churchill to reactionary rulers in other countries, to , General Franco, to Admiral Darlan, to Marshal Badoglio, and to Prince Umberto, and the support he has accorded to a movement to restore the Greek King to his throne.” The South Wales Miners’ Federation executive, after discussing the situation in the liberated countries, passed a resolution that “We are seriously alarmed at the support the British Government and British arms are giving to establish reactionary Governments in Europe, particularly in Belgium and Greece. We call on the miners’ members of Parliament to raise the question in the House, of Commons, and urge the Mineworkers’ Federation at the forthcoming Labour Party Conference to press for the election of Governments in the liberated countries which represent the forces that worked within those countries for their liberation,”
