GERMANY’S LOSSES
3,000,000 ARMY MEN' TERRIFIC BLOODSHED DOWN TO 290 DIVISIONS LONDON, Dec. 5. Germany has lost more than 3,000,000 fighting men in the past six months, according to an official statement made to-day by Colonel Chassin, Director of French Military Information, says Reuter’s correspondent at Supreme Allied Headquarters. The colonel added that this terrific bloodshed corresponds to four or five conscription calls. He listed the losses as 1,150,000 each in France and Russia, plus 300,000 in Italy. In addition, Germany has lost the services of over 700,000 soldiers of satellite States, most of whom had not only dropped the German cause but were fighting beside the Allies. Germany’s strength in divisions had been reduced from 460, six months ago, to only 290.
The New York Times’ Stockholm correspondent, learns authoritatively that German war casualties exceed 5,500,000, of which 3,000,000 have been killed in action. Ninety per cent of wounded men eventually have returned to the front.
