Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Greenbie, who have been- spending a few days In Gisborne addressing various meetings. left yesterday on their return to Wellington. Advice received by cable states that Or. and Mrs. W. A. Bowie have arrived in the United Kingdom. Dr. Bowie is to seek medical treatment :n London, and later will visit Edinburgh and other parts of Britain.
Mr. E\ C. Addison, resident inspector of the Bank of New South Wales and chairman of the Associated Banks in New Zealand, who has been visiting the East Coast, left this morning for Wairoa on the return trip to his headquarters in Wellington.
Apoointments in the Public Service listed in the latest Gazette include that of Mrs, Jean Paterson Plowright as deputy-registrar of births . and deaths of* Maoris at Tikitiki. Mr. John Noel Spooner is to till the position of registrar of brands for the Wairoa branding district. The Director-General of Health, Dr. M. 11. Watt, accompanied by Mr. F. J. Fenton, arrived at Gisborne yesterday afternoon from the south for discussions with departmental officers and executive officers of the Cook Hospital. He visited the hospital this morning, and this afternoon was to leave tor the Coast and Opotiki.
Dr. lan D. Blair, who left New Zealand in 1939 and subsequently studied in Britain and North America, is to rejoin the staff of Canterbury Agricultural College in the new year as lecturer in microbiology. On returning to New Zealand in 1942, Dr. Blair served for a time in the army, after which he acted as assistant superintendent during the development of the services’ vegetable production scheme administered by the Department of Agriculture. . More recently he has been supervising a crop research programme based on an experimental area in Auckland.
Several Gisborne names appear in the latest list of appointments, promotions and relinquishments contained in the current issue of the Gazette. The Rev. R. C. Aires, chaplain 4th class, is' reposted from the Second N.Z.E.F. to ihe Territorial Force with the same rank. Captain C. K. Swallow. M.R.. Ch. 8.. New Zealand Medical Corns, is venostod from the Second N.Z.E.F. to the Territorial Force with the temporary rank captain. Lieutenant W. W. Shc-rratt is posted to the reserve of officers. Lieutenant (temporary major) B. M. Dallas is posted to the retired list with the rank of major. Major G. A. King is appointed D.A.A.G. of the Central Military District Lieutenants E. Y. M. Hutchinson and A. E. Thodey are appointed to the rank of captain. Tames Randall 'Sherratl and Henry Richard Evans are appointed to commissionod rank as Second lieutenants.
