GAINS EXTENDED ALLIES ON"THE SAAR STUBBORN~OPPOSITI ON .(10'a.in.) LONDON, Dec. 5. To-day's communique from Supfgmef Allied Headquarters says: “We have • cleared the enemy from the entire area west of the Maas River. ‘“Our forces on the west bank of the Roer River are meeting stubborn resistance in the outskirts of Julich. “We are east of the Inde River, qnd ' have Consolidated our positions in.Lucherberg and Luchem. We have made slight progress in the Brandenberg area, south-east of Hurtgen.
“'ln the Saar Valley, we hold the entire west bank of the Saar River, from the Merzig area southward to Saarlouis (Saarlautern). Our troops have cleared Walleriangcn, one nine north of Saarlouis.
‘‘Our troops across the river in Saarlouis are meeting with strong opposition. Farther south we have reached Tedingen and Dieblingen, nine and 11 miles respectively east of St.. Av'old, and have advanced beyond Puttelance. . “North-east ot Saarunion, we are meeting stubborn opposition in the vicinity of Vollerdingen and Domfessel, both three miles north-east ot Sa amnion. .“We have cleared the villages east and west of the lower Vosges in our ndrthward advance, and made slight gains on the Alsace Plain. Fighting DUS progressed for the third day in Schlettstadt.
