MEAT GRADING
EXTENSION PROPOSALS
NO DEFERRING OF SCHEME (P.R.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 6. “The Government has no intention of deferring the imminent' extension of meat grading,” said the acting Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. A. K. Nordmeyer, in the House ot Representatives yesterday. ' He was replying to an urgent question by Mr. A. S. Sutherland (Opp. Hauraki), who asked -whether, the Minister would give an, opportunity,of discussing the meat grading system before putting it into operation m ine Waikato, or, - in the alternative, whether- he would cancel the arrangements .until after the war. He - said statements were made that the system would operate unfairly against the export market trade to Britain. “I .have- already announced- that the Government’s decision to complete the introduction of meat grading .tinoughout the Dominion at the beginning of January ■ was -arrived-wat .after full consideration of all factors, including the question of the possible effects on export trade.” said Mr.'. Nordmeyer. “Experience" in Wellington dpt ing the iwst vear does not support the contention that the quantity of first-grade meat available for. export will be reduced under grading."
