BASTIONS FALL CZECH BORDER TOWN THE WAY~TO KOSICE LONDON, Dec. 3. The .Soviet communique desenoes ’Miskolcz as a most important centre of Hungarian war industry. The Russians have also taken Sa Loral-.Jaushely, a town on the Czech border, the fall of which opens the way for an advance to Kosice. The German News Agency states: “The Germans and Hungarians abandoned Miskolcz in order to straighten out the front after the enemy penetrated the southern part of the town.” The news agency also said that the Russian drive lias reached the area of Nagybajom, 14 miles west of Kaposvar and 65 miles from Austria.

Reuter's Moscow correspondent says General Tolbukhin’s mobile forces are driving fresh wedges into the crumoling German defences west of the Danuoe. The Russian vanguards are moving as self-contained units and are exploiting to the maximum each new break-through. The Soviet communique says.— "North-east and south oi Kaposvav the Russians, continuing their offensive m Hungary, captured the towns of Dunafoldvar, Tamasi, Szentlorincz and over BO other places. The Russians in Hungary between November 25 and December 2 took 7675 prisoners, making a total of 21,745 Hungarians ana Germans captured since November 8.

The Kussians in north-eastern Hungary won an important double victory io-tiuy when they captured Satoraljausnely and Miskolcz, states the Associated Press, which describes iVuskolcz as the last great centre of German resistance in the sector north-east of Budapest. Miskolcz, only 20 miles from the border of Czechoslovakia and 80 miles from Budapest, stands on the main railway from Budapest to north-east ot Lwow. The capture ot Satoral-J ausnely cuts the other German railway communications in north-eastern Hungary. baioral-J ausnely is on the line Detween Miskolcz and Uzhorod via Cop, ancl also on the line running from Miskolcz over the Carpathians to tiie Polish town of Sanok. General Petrov’s troops occupying Satoral-Jaushely also cut the rather roundabout railway between Miskolcz and Kosice, which is 27 miles to the north-west.
