GISBORNE AIRMAN D.F.C. AWARDED (P.A.) • WELLINGTON, Nov. 2. The immediate award of the Distinguished Flying Cross has been made to the following:— Flight Lieutenant James Roy Cullen. Waihi. Flight Lieutenant Allan Henderson Smith, Auckland. Flying Officer Douglas Nevill Robinson; father, Mr. Hugh Robinson, Gisborne. The citation accompanying the award to Flying Officer Robinson states: “He has executed many sorties, attacking numerous targets and throughout he has shown courage and determination. He has shot down four enemy aircraft during night operations. Flying Officer Robinson has set a fine example of courage and devotion to duty.” Born in Gisborne in 1922, Flying Officer Robinson attended the Gisborne High School and technical school and prior to his enlistment in the R.N.Z.A.F. in February, 1941, was employed on Makomako station, Gisborne. He married in England, where his wife resides.
